It must be some kind of record – Noel Gallagher has claimed the three best-selling vinyl singles released so far this year. Data from the Official Charts Company reveals the ex-Oasis man’s dominance extends to the album chart, which he also tops ahead of Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti and the debut by fellow Mancunians The Stone Roses. Vinyl – which at one point looked close to extinction in the face of CDs and streaming – has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years and last year saw vinyl LP sales reach a 20-year high in the UK at 1.29 million. The top five albums also include Blur’s comeback LP, The Magic Whip, and Royal Blood’s eponymous debut. Led Zeppelin feature in the top 10 twice with their fourth album, which includes their most famous track Stairway To Heaven, at number eight. Gallagher’s releases Riverman, Ballad Of The Mighty and The Dying Of The Light take the top three places in the singles chart ahead of Blur’s Y’all Doomed and Changes by David Bowie. Bowie has another two singles in the chart – Young Americans and Side By Side/Kingdom Come – while Gallagher’s In The Heat Of The Moment sneaks in at number seven.
