Nirvana

It’s been more than 20 years since Seattle grunge band Nirvana released their infamous album Nevermind and changed the face of popular music forever. But leave it to an unsuspecting teenage girl to send fans into meltdown after casually tweeting photographs of the band’s first gig in March 1987.
Maggie Poukkula, 19, discovered the pics after having a rummage around at her dad’s – who actually played with the trio at their house party debut. The teen explained that her father, Tony, and Kurt Cobain went to the same high school and they would occasionally jam together. Tony was also kind enough to provide the venue – his house in Nussbaum Road, Raymond, Washington.
Legend has it that Cobain and company got only a lukewarm reception as they performed early Nirvana songs “Hairspray Queen” and “Downer”. Cobain himself claimed that band covered Flipper’s “Sex Bomb” for an hour straight – but this might have been one of the singer’s favoured fabrications.
