Arctic Monkeys have been awarded with the Best Live Act prize at this year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards.

Established in 1976, the awards raise funds for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins, who work with people with a range of conditions including autism, dementia, depression and physical and learning disabilities. £8.5 million has been raised over the years to fund the organisation’s music therapy work.

This year’s O2 Silver Clef Lunch takes place today (July 3) at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane. It marks the ceremony’s 40th anniversary.

The Best Live Act Award, sponsored by Live Nation and Ticketmaster, is the only accolade determined by a public vote, with the Sheffield band fighting off competition from Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters and Kate Bush.

Speaking of the win, Arctic Monkeys said in a statement: “Thanks to everyone who voted for us and helped us win this year’s Nordoff Robbins Best Live Act Award at the O2 Silver Clefs. It’s a real honour to be chosen. Congratulations to Nordoff Robbins on their 40th birthday and for all the incredible work they do using music therapy to help people.”
Previous winners of the prize include Justin Timberlake (2014), One Direction (2013), McFly (2012) and Sir Paul McCartney (2011).

Others winners in this year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards include Kasabian (Royal Albert Hall Best Group Award), Jake Bugg (AEG Live Best Male Award), Duran Duran (Spotify Lifetime Achievement Award), Primal Scream (Investec Icon Award), among others.

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner joined Mini Mansions on stage in London on Tuesday (June 30), performing ‘Vertigo’ with the band at Hackney venue Oslo.

Mini Mansions were in the UK following a performance at Glastonbury at the weekend. Dressed in a white T-shirt, Turner came out to perform his verse on the single and dropped his microphone after finishing in a scene reminiscent of his infamous Brit Awards speech of 2014.

Meanwhile, drummer Matt Helders has announced that he is to be a father for the first time. Model and fiancée Breana McDow, who has appeared in three of the band’s music videos, is 21 weeks pregnant.
